Modern Mediterranean lifestyle interventions require personalised, scalable and technology-driven support. WP5 develops the digital backbone of MEDIET4ALL, including AI-based recommendation models and the MedLifestyle Smart Coach, enabling users to monitor their dietary and lifestyle behaviours and receive tailored guidance.

Objectives of WP5

WP5 aims to:

  • Develop a centralised digital platform integrating data collection, analysis, recommendations, and coaching.

  • Implement AI-based models to evaluate adherence to Mediterranean Diet principles and provide personalised, explainable feedback.

  • Deliver a user-friendly MedLifestyle Smart Coach within a unified mobile application.

  • Ensure GDPR-compliant, ethically sound data management for multicentre interventions.

Approach

Led by the University of Sfax, WP5 combines AI expertise, digital health technology, and methodological input from other partners. Key activities include:

  • Development of a modular and scalable e-platform for structured data collection and analysis.

  • Integration of AI-based recommendation and scoring models to translate user data into actionable guidance.

  • Creation of the MedLifestyle Smart Coach, providing longitudinal, adaptive coaching.

  • Integration of all components into a single, unified mobile application for end-users.

Key achievements

At this stage, WP5 has delivered:

  • A comprehensive Data Management Plan ensuring ethical and regulatory compliance.

  • A central digital platform for harmonised data collection and secure storage.

  • AI-driven recommendation and scoring models capable of generating personalised feedback.

  • A functional MedLifestyle Smart Coach integrated into the MEDIET4ALL mobile app.

  • Unified architecture enabling users to log activities, monitor progress, and receive tailored guidance.

Impact and next steps

WP5 enhances engagement, reduces barriers, and supports sustained adoption of Mediterranean lifestyle practices. Next steps include:

  • Continuous refinement of AI models and coaching algorithms.

  • Expansion of platform functionalities, including future features such as computer-vision-based food recognition.

  • Support of multicentre interventions with structured, GDPR-compliant data collection.

  • Dissemination and reuse of the digital infrastructure beyond the project lifetime.
