A Day Dedicated to Health and Family

On March 29, 2025, the Institute of Sports Science in Germany welcomed around 150 enthusiastic participants to a unique and inspiring event, the MEDIET4ALL Family One-Day Camp. Supported by the European Union as part of the PRIMA initiative, the day brought families together to explore how Mediterranean eating habits and an active lifestyle can contribute to better health and a more sustainable future.

From the moment families arrived, the atmosphere was full of energy and curiosity. The morning began with registration and introduction, followed by a range of hands-on and movement-based activities designed for children.

Learning Through Movement and Creativity

One group of children participated in a fitness session based on the German Motor Test (DMT), where they could test their agility, strength, and coordination. Laughter filled the sports hall as children ran, jumped, and played, discovering how enjoyable physical activity can be. The goal was to show that movement is not only important for health but can also be fun when done together.

Meanwhile, another group attended a creative nutrition workshop, where participants learned to make their own granola bars from wholesome ingredients. Under friendly guidance, the children mixed oats, seeds, dried fruits, and honey, realizing that healthy snacks can be both simple and delicious. The children later enjoyed their homemade creations, sharing smiles and crumbs alike.

Before lunch, the activity area transformed into a small “Mediterranean kitchen.” Children and parents prepared vegetarian burgers from fresh, plant-based ingredients and even created a healthy alternative to traditional ketchup. This tasty experiment not only delighted the kids but also highlighted how everyday favorites can be turned into healthy nutritious meals with just a few smart swaps.

Sharing Mediterranean Flavors and Knowledge

During the mediterranean-style lunch break, families came together to enjoy their meal inspired by the diet’s key principles: plenty of vegetables, grains, and olive oil, all shared in good company. The lunch provided a perfect pause to reflect on the morning’s experiences and exchange impressions with others.

The last part of the program shifted focus slightly. Parents attended an informative lecture on the benefits of the Mediterranean lifestyle, covering its impact on long-term health, environmental sustainability, and family well-being. The session offered practical tips for integrating small, realistic changes into daily routines, from cooking habits to shared family meals. At the same time, the children enjoyed an engaging hour of board games and group play, learning about nutrition and teamwork in a relaxed and fun setting.

A Meaningful Conclusion and Positive Reflections

The event concluded with closing remarks and a round of gifts and applause for all participants. Organizers expressed their gratitude for the wonderful engagement shown by both parents and children, emphasizing that the camp’s true success lies in its ability to combine learning, movement, and enjoyment in a single day.

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. Many families shared that the day had inspired them to be more mindful about food choices and to spend more active time together.

In the end, the MEDIET4ALL Family One-Day Camp stood out as a memorable experience, one that celebrated the joy of healthy living, the power of community, and the simple truth that well-being can begin with small, shared actions.
